Maya Shkolnik is a visual artist based in New York City. She received her BA in Computer Science and Russian Literature at Columbia University in May 2025 and studied Russian Literature at the University of Oxford in 2024.

Spanning documentary and conceptual photography, Maya’s work captures an “atmospheric” quality, according to her dad. Her subjects are inspired by coursework in psychoanalysis, from a performance work, “Confess,” with her mother to an ongoing video project at Russian borders titled “Fatherland.” She continues to bridge video work and psychoanalysis as Media Team Lead for Dr. Beebe’s mother-infant lab.

Maya’s other work includes event photography and photography assisting. She photographs weekly meetings and events for the United Nations Association in NYC (March 2023 - present). She also regularly assists photographer, Emmie America, for Vogue Portugal (July 2024), Meduza Project (December 2023), and Nike (July 2023). In 2024, she hosted a summer group art show titled “Immediate Art” showing 20 friends’ works in her unfurnished apartment, creating a gallery series in collaboration with Ben Shakespeare.
